Sarah Hartley 1827 Sampler

The Sarah Hartley 1827 sampler is reproduced from a sampler in a private collection. The sampler is believed to be an American sampler, but no other genealogical history is available. However, the Mary Jane Gettys sampler, that was reproduced and published in volume one of Sampler and Antique Needlework Quarterly magazine, is strikingly similar to the Sarah Hartley sampler, which suggests the two girls might have attended the same school or were taught by the same teacher. The reproduction of the Sarah Hartley sampler has been done matching the thread colors on the front of the sampler. The sampler is stitched entirely in cross stitch over one and over two threads. Suggested stitching materials are 28 count Amber linen from Wichelt Imports and DMC cotton floss with au ver a soie silk alternative colors provided. The antique Sarah Hartley sampler is pictured.
