Faithfully Recreated Reproductions of Antique Samplers New for April 2008, reproduction of an American Quaker sampler in the Historic Stitches collection. The reproduction of the MA Brown 1826 sampler is stitched on 28 count Vintage Examplar linen from Lakeside Linens. Thread alternatives are given for DMC cotton floss; Needlepoint, Inc. silk; and soie d'alger silk from Access Commodities. The sampler is stitched primarily in cross stitch over two threads with a small amount of cross stitch over one thread, and measures approximately 10.25 inches wide by 8.25 inches high. Chart pack includes an analysis of the MA Brown antique sampler by noted Quaker sampler scholar Lynn Tinley.
The Sarah Hartley 1827 sampler is reproduced from a sampler in a private collection. The sampler is believed to be an American sampler, but no other genealogical history is available. However, the Mary Jane Gettys sampler, that was reproduced and published in volume one of Sampler and Antique Needlework Quarterly magazine, is strikingly similar to the Sarah Hartley sampler, which suggests the two girls might have attended the same school or were taught by the same teacher. The reproduction of the Sarah Hartley sampler has been done matching the thread colors on the front of the sampler. The sampler is stitched entirely in cross stitch over one and over two threads. Suggested stitching materials are 28 count Amber linen from Wichelt Imports and DMC cotton floss with au ver a soie silk alternative colors provided. The antique Sarah Hartley sampler is pictured.
Reproduction of an English
sampler. The reproduction is stitched on 40 count natural brown
undyed linen from Wichelt Imports using au ver soie silk. DMC
color equivalents are also provided. Stitches used in the sampler
include cross stitch over three threads, cross stitch over two
threads, satin stitch, back stitch and eyelet stitch over two
threads. Extensive stitching instructions, stitch diagrams and
expanded charts of areas which require special stitching instructions
are provided in the chart pack. Approximate finished size of
the sampler is 9 inches wide by 18 3/8 inches high.

sampler, believed to be from the New England region of the US.
The reproduction is stitched on 30 count Legacy linen, color
Vanilla Gold, using DMC cotton floss and soie d'alger silk. The
Ann Craven sampler is stitched primarily in cross stitch over
two threads with a small amount of eyelet stitches over four
and over six threads. Approximate finished size of the sampler

is stitched on 28 count hand-dyed linen using DMC cotton floss.

inches wide by 14 and 1/8 inches tall.
Reproduction of an American
sampler, reputed to be an Ohio sampler. The reproduction of the
Isabella Brackin sampler is stitched on 28 count Sandstone linen
from Wichelt Imports using au ver a soie silks from Access Commodities.
The Isabella Brackin sampler is stitched primarily in cross stitch
over two threads with a small amount of queen stitches and cross
stitch over one thread. The reproduction measures approximately
17 and 1/8 inches wide by 16.75 inches tall.
English sampler stitched by John Foster in June, 1885. The reproduction of this antique sampler which is in the collection of Historic Stitches is stitched on 35 count Lambswool linen from Wichelt Imports with a combination of DMC floss and Weeks Dye Works over-dyed threads. The sampler is stitched entirely in cross stitch over two linen threads with one strand of floss. The approximate stitched size of the completed sampler is 8.75 inches wide by 11.25 inches tall.
Reproduction of an American sampler that is believed to be an Ohio sampler, as many motifs commonly found on Ohio samplers were stitched by the mysterious MB. The reproduction is stitched on unevenweave Glenshee linen from The Heart's Content to most closely match the linen of the antique sampler. Au ver a soie silk from Access Commodities was used to stitch the reproduction. The sampler is stitched entirely in cross stitch over two threads and approximate finished size is 7 inches wide by 16.5 inches high.
